Hi, it’s Alyvia, one of Kid Governor Tessa’s Cabinet Members! The community issue I’m working on is cleaning up pollution that can affect marine life. My platform has the following 3 steps. Which ones can you help with in your own community?
1. Raise awareness about the impact of littering.
2. Create signs to encourage people to clean up.
3. Plan community clean up events.
LEARN ABOUT POLLUTION:
Did you know that April 22 is Earth Day? Earth Day is an annual event that encourages people to help clean up the environment. For Earth Day, let’s all try to do a clean up in our own communities to achieve the third point of my platform!
MAKE SIGNS:
When you’re at home or have some free time at school, you and your friends can make posters saying to pick up trash and not litter. You might want to look online for inspiration. Then, about a week before Earth Day we can all hang them up in places where we usually see a lot of trash.
CLEAN UP:
Find a time after school when people can come back and help clean up around the playground, parking lot, even around the whole building. Talk to your family, teachers, and principal to see if they can help you organize a time. If you set up an event, get the word out! Include the time and place on your posters. Make sure you tell friends, family, and everyone you know that littering is really unsafe for marine animals and they can get really hurt because of our choices. So be aware of what you’re doing and who it impacts when you do it!
