How to Participate

Classes can participate in Connecticut’s Kid Governor® in one of two exciting ways:

A. Nominating & Voting Class

To take advantage of the full program experience, your students can nominate one 5th-grader from your school for Kid Governor and vote in the Statewide Election! The Nominating & Voting experience begins in late September and continues into mid-November. Nominating & Voting Classes have access to a Toolkit of 15 free lessons and additional digital resources, including:

  • Five in-class lessons about our state’s three branches of government, the role of the Governor, leadership, and the history of voting rights in our state.
  • Three in-class lessons about identifying important community issues, researching issues, and developing campaign platforms.
  • Five lessons for building a platform, crafting a campaign speech, voting in an election, and holding an in-class or 5th grade-wide primary.
  • Resources for recording the school nominee’s campaign video.
  • Worksheets and tools for analyzing campaign videos and voting during the Statewide Election.

B. Voting-Only Class

Your students can participate in just the Statewide Election without nominating a student! The Voting-Only Class experience begins in late October and continues into mid-November. Participating classes have access to a Toolkit of lessons and digital resources, including:

  • Five in-class lessons about our state’s three branches of government, the role of the Governor, leadership, and the history of voting rights in our state.
  • Worksheets and tools for analyzing campaign videos and voting during the Statewide Election.
