On Friday, January 21, 2022, Connecticut’s Kid Governor Makhi Ettienne-Modeste and his Cabinet were officially sworn into office at Inauguration Day 2022! Connecticut 5th graders, teachers, and community members watched live online to observe the transition of power between 2021 Kid Governor Reese Naughton and 2022 Kid Governor Makhi.
The celebration included a formal inauguration ceremony, news conference with Kid Governor Makhi and his Cabinet, and a conversation with elected officials from the three branches of state government. Special guests included: WTNH News 8’s Keith Kountz (emcee), Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Attorney General William Tong, Deputy Secretary of the State Scott Bates, Deputy Commissioner of Education Desi Nesmith, State Representative Jane Garibay, State Representative Tami Zawistowski, Supreme Court Justice Steven Ecker, and retired Supreme Court Justice Dennis Eveleigh.

9:00am-10:00am – Inauguration Ceremony hosted by WTNH News 8’s Keith Kountz with remarks from state officials, 2021 Kid Governor Reese Naughton’s Farewell Address, 2022 Kid Governor Makhi Ettienne-Modeste’s Inaugural Address, and the official oath of office from Deputy Secretary of the State Scott Bates.
10:05am-10:30am – News Conference with Kid Governor Makhi and his Cabinet answering pre-submitted questions from YOUR classes!
10:45am-11:30am – Meet the Three Branches of State Government educational program during which your students will “meet” officials from the three branches of state government and hear their answers to pre-submitted questions from YOUR classes!
