Meet Mateo

CTKG Myra and Mateo at the Connecticut Humane Society.

Back in February 2020, Connecticut’s Kid Governor Myra Stanfield was visiting the Connecticut Humane Society in Newington to film an educational video and to drop off donations from her school as a part of her platform. While she was there, Myra met Mateo the Chihuahua. With a quick ask to mom, Myra was bringing Mateo home to join their other dog, Oliver.

Meet Brandy

Kid Governor Assistant Samantha and Brandy.

Kid Governor Assistant Samantha and her family have been dog lovers forever. After the loss of their toy poodle in 2019 (rescued in 2005!), they knew that they needed to give another dog a happy life. In May 2020, Samantha rescued Brandy the pitbull-boxer mix from Companion Pet Rescue in Southbury. Since May, the now 7 month old puppy has loved being the center of attention during Zoom meetings, going swimming at the lake, and giving cuddles to anyone who sits on the couch.

Meet HairyCat Beecher Stowe

HairyCat Beecher Stowe

Kid Governor Assistant Jacob and his family adopted Stowe in August of 2016 to be a brother for their dog, Bark Twain. They adopted Stowe from the Protectors of Animals in East Hartford and he has been a perfect match for their family ever since. Stowe loves boxes, scratching up doors and window trim, and is the friendliest cat you’ll ever meet.

Meet Dolly

Head of Kid Governor Brian with Dolly

Brian and his family adopted Dolly as a puppy in 2011 from Companion Pet Rescue in Southbury. This Jack Russell Terrier-Terrier mix is all smiles with the Head of Kid Governor. Her favorite things, Brian says, are running around the yard, belly rubs, and napping.

Meet Holly, Caspian, and Luna

Luna, Caspian, and Holly.

Executive Director of Connecticut’s Old State House Sally Whipple and her husband love their collies! Since the mid-2000s, they have given homes to rescue collies Angel, Bear, Chester, Buddy, Lassie, Holly, Caspian, and Luna. With the exception of Angel, all of them have come from the Collie Rescue League of New England! These pups love being outdoors and going for hikes at nearby state parks.

Executive Director Sally Whipple doesn’t just have the collies at home, she also has three cats: Luna Cat, Buttercup, and Marceline. Buttercup and Marceline were adopted earlier this year from the Connecticut Humane Society in Waterford to be new sisters for Luna Cat, who was rescued in 2008.
