2016 Connecticut's Kid Governor Elena Tipton!

Hundreds of the state's 5th graders participated in the first ever election for Connecticut's Kid Governor in November 2015 and in the end, Elena Tipton of Dr. Thomas O'Connell School in East Hartford emerged as the winning candidate with her "Campaign for Kindness" platform.

"My big goal is to get everyone to spread kindness and just be kinder, especially with all that's going on around the world right now," said the new Kid Governor. Elena proposed establishing the 13th of each month as Kindness Day, installing buddy benches in schools and creating an online blog where Connecticut students can share examples of being kind to others.

The Connecticut Public Affairs Network hosted a formal Inauguration for Elena in January 2016 at Connecticut's Old State House, where she was given the Oath of Office by Secretary of the State Denise Merrill in front of 200 fellow 5th graders, teachers, and invited guests. During her one-year term, Elena spoke with students and adults across the state and communicated with constituents through her blog, video messages, emails, and a Summer Library Circuit. Although her term as Connecticut's Kid Governor ended in January 2016, she is enthusiastically continuing her campaign for kindness which you can follow on her "Kindness is Kool" blog.
