The fourth annual Connecticut’s Kid Governor® Inauguration Day event took place in the historic courtroom at Connecticut’s Old State House on Friday, January 18th. Students from Avon, East Hartford, Meriden, South Windsor, Southington, West Hartford, and Wilton attended along with elected officials and members of the press. The day began with 2018 Connecticut’s Kid Governor Megan Kasperowski sharing the first two videos of her Stronger Than Cancer video series and a musical performance by former state troubadour, Thomasina Levy. All six members constitutional officer for the state of Connecticut spoke during the morning’s ceremony, including Governor Lamont, as did Congresswoman Jahana Hayes and Ella’s state representatives and senators. Ella Briggs was sworn in as the fourth Connecticut’s Kid Governor by Secretary of the State Denise Merrill. The ceremony was followed by a press conference featuring 2019 Ella and the six final candidates. Following the ceremony and press conference, students participated in an immersive exploration of Connecticut’s three branches of government in the room where they happened. Students were welcomed by Old State House staff and volunteers as well as volunteers from Civics First.
